Touch of Death

from Calvin

Death Where is Your Sting

We’ve passed what is commonly called the Easter Season. It is celebrated by many with bunnies, chicks, and colored eggs, which actually have only a very shallow meaning.

We as Christians must never allow the modern worldly version of this celebration to override the true significance that is found in the Holy Scripture, with the history of our Lord Jesus. For us, this must always be a time of celebrating Resurrection, as we journey from death to life.

For the most part, all people have been touched by or will experience, the touch of death.  Hebrews 9:27 KJV And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.

Even our Lord Jesus passed through the agony of death. We don’t like to be faced with death, however, it is evident that few have escaped it. Death ends the temporal and resurrection beings our forever future.

As I mature in age, I find that I appreciate my three favorite teachers more each day; the Holy Spirit, Experience, and Observation. With their teachings, I gain constant revelation concerning death, and the fear of it loses its grip on my soul.

You may ask, how can you say that? The answer is found in the blessing of clarity concerning the resurrection and eternal life. Romans 5:10 NLT, For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.

The supreme sacrifice, His death by shedding His own blood, has redeemed us from the death sentence. And by His resurrection to life, He has imparted to us as believers, salvation. We are saved and given eternal life.  I Corinthians 15:54 KJV … death is swallowed up in victory.

At this point, I’m asking myself why I have opened such a large and complex subject as death and resurrection. My purpose is not to cause confusion or generate hard to answer questions. I do however desire that we gain the revelation of life over death.

We never celebrate death, yet we can celebrate our sure and never disappointing hope in the resurrection, even in the face of death. John 3:16 NKJV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

As the years of living in our earth suit, fade away, our future of living in our forever heavenly suit began to fade in. I Corinthians 15:20-23 NLT But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the first fruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.

I have always found hope in the words of the Apostle Paul when he talked of what we commonly call death.  II Timothy 4:6-8 NLT As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

On a personal note, I have stared death in the face several times. It was never accompanied by fear. Rather I had a curious expectation of wondering, what’s next? Also a certain settling in my soul that simply says, Well, looks like I’m about to find out. I have never feared death, nor do I look forward to it. Having tasted the first fruits of Eternal Life, I find a better understanding of I Corinthians 15:55-57 NLT O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? 56 For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. 57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Clearly, the more I separate myself from sin and the old covenant, the less I fear death. Give your heart, soul, and very life to Jesus. Believe in Him and begin truly experiencing life. You’ll be glad you did.

In His Service,

Calvin

Jesus told us in Matthew 19:14 … Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of Heaven.

It’s time to prepare materials for this year's VBS programs.  Last year with your help, Faith Ministries provided material for 6,000 children in many small towns throughout Sonora and Chihuahua. This year we will need to print the material. The printing may cost almost as much as when we purchased the material. We also help provide refreshments and many times a piñata as well as handcrafts. These children spend a week immersing in God’s Word.

Many children will meet Jesus as their Savior for the first time. These programs present the Gospel in a way that makes it attractive and fun to hear and memorize God’s Word.

Many of these children don’t attend a Christian church, so it is a special opportunity to not only sow God’s Word in their hearts but to send it home. Many VBS programs are being planned throughout Sonora and Chihuahua.

Navojoa Fellowship Meeting
Navojoa Fellowship Meeting

Psalms 1:1-3 NLT How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe. Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting.

This year, our partners representing Faith Ministries in the Navojoa region of Sonora, Felipe and Carmen Vasquez, are promoting fellowship meetings. They invite the congregations of nearby churches to attend and the meetings last for three days. The local congregation provides an evening meal for everyone who attends.

They have had four meetings this year and have two more planned.

The Teran family needs a miracle!* The Ecuadorian Guinea government has not yet responded to them concerning a long term visa. Without it they would have to return to Mexico.

Their heart's desire is to remain with their missionary work in Africa. We join them in prayer for positive actions by the government.

They have also taken on a personal project to build a house for some of the schoolteachers. Even if they must leave, they plan to continue with supply to finish this house.

Follow the Teran family on Facebook. Follow Morada de Paz College.

* Since the printing and mailing of our paper newsletter, the Teran family has returned to Mexico.
