Prayer Is Essential
from Calvin
I Samuel 12:23 KJV Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way.
On a personal note, I consider this to be my number one priority in prayer. I pray for my flock, which includes my blood kin and my spiritual children, as well as our partners in ministry.
The Apostle Paul exhorts his spiritual son Timothy to expand his prayer focus in I Timothy 2:1-6 NLT 1 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 5 For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. 6 He gave His life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.
From verse 1, we are to pray for all people. According to our Lord Jesus, this even includes our enemies.
Matthew 5:44 KJV But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
In verse 2, we are to include all who are in authority. Even politicians we disagree with. Why? That we might have a peaceful, Godly life. Why? Because we don’t have it yet. So keep praying.
In verse 3, we see the most important reason to pray like this, it pleases God! Think about that.
With verse 4, we find the purpose and expected result that is God’s foremost desire: Salvation for all!
Verse 5, is an amazing sermon in itself: I see as if God is saying, My heart’s desire is to have men’s hearts, so point them to My Son, Jesus, because He will make this happen. He knows the only true path to my heart.
Luke 9:35 KJV And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear Him.
Our prayers should always direct people to Christ. He has all the answers.
Verse 6: Oh my! Talk about the ultimate reason to pray. Jesus gave up His life to purchase our freedom and now lives in resurrection power to assure our access to God. The least we can do is pray people into the Kingdom.
Romans 8:34 KJV … It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
He still prays for you and me, so we should still pray for the lost. It’s all in the plan of God.
I John 5:14-15 NLT And we are confident that He hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases Him. And since we know He hears us when we make our requests, we also know that He will give us what we ask for.
Thank you for your faithful support through prayers and love gifts. We believe your action of joining forces with us is also in the plan of God.
Faith on Wheels part 2
Summer, 1974
While ministering in Miami, we were encouraged to visit a wilderness area of southern TN where several families were trying to develop a self-sustaining farm. They followed the concept of communal living which was quite popular in those times. We stayed several days ministering in their home services.
I filled my daytime hours helping with the construction of a dwelling. Most of us had little experience in construction, nor did we have proper tools, but we did the best we could with what we had. I spent days sanding drywall with a hand block, all without a protective dust mask. Before long I had dust pneumonia in the worst way.
As our Tennessee assignment finished we headed for Martinsville, Indiana. Our contact family there we had met when we were on the mission in Columbia, South America three years prior.
Upon our arrival, we had a sweet reunion with them. As this segment of history is shared, keep in mind that the people we ministered to were fresh out of the traditional denominational churches. Their lives had been changed by experiencing the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which was not accepted by most traditional churches.
So, we had our church services anywhere we could get a group of like faith folks together. We met in homes, offices, stores that were closed, and even in some places literally out in the woods. Our services were structured around I Corinthians 14:26 “How is it then, brethren? When ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.”
Meanwhile back in Indiana, I’m still fighting pneumonia, never-the-less I was led by the Spirit to take the lead in a Sunday morning service. I was physically very weak, yet fired up in my spirit. As I took the pulpit a strong anointing came on me and I ministered powerfully.
At the end of my sermon, the anointing to preach lifted and I became weak and sickly once more, hardly able to make my way back to our RV where I spent the rest of the day sitting up in bed gasping for breath.
Long story made short, within a few days, faith and grace restored my health and I was good as new.
Moving on, our next stop is Little Rock, AR. We had the phone number of a lady we had met at a camp meeting a year earlier. We made the call and were warmly invited to her house. To our surprise we found her address in the ritziest part of the city; a mansion with several classic Rolls Royce automobiles in the drive. She was president of the Royals Royce Club of America and had been the Governor's personal secretary.
We had a sweet time of prayer with her and she blessed us with a love gift. Little did she know that our gas tank was on empty and I only had one copper penny in my pocket. Yet we hadn’t missed a meal or a mile. Faith was still working.
Now, on to Hereford, TX, where we ministered at a church pastored by friends we had known in Albuquerque. During a meal at the pastor’s house after service, a phone call came in that a church family was having a serious domestic dispute. I went with the pastor to a large farmhouse a few miles out of town.
Arriving, we immediately encountered strong demonic activity. The house was radiant with evil as the step-dad and his stepson were screaming obscenities at one another. As we entered, they calmed enough for introductions. Then, the pastor asked what the problem was and their response turned into hot accusations, and again the demonic presence became very thick. Suddenly the stepson grasped a butcher knife and ran toward the step-dad who reacted in self-defense with a 44 magnum pistol. About 6 ft. apart the step-dad cocked the pistol to shoot. The pastor and I, without thinking, began to loudly speak in tongues with very authoritative voices of commands from the Holy Spirit.
The two men literally froze in their tracts about three feet from each other. The pastor reached out and removed the knife from the son’s hand and I put my hand on the dad’s pistol, pushing it towards the floor, and said, “Put it away.” He released the hammer and stuck it in his belt. We then escorted the stepson out of the house and drove him to a friend’s house in town.
The offering from the Hereford church sent us all the way back home where we arrived with about the same amount of money we had left with six weeks earlier.
Faith is substance, evidence, and more than enough.

As a family, we have taken on a project to build a house for some of the teachers at the Morada de Paz College. The house where they live is very poor quality. The roof leaks and gets everything wet. Also, it is often broken into. Things are stolen, and the thieves beat up and abuse these teachers.
If you would like to help with this project, we at Faith Ministries will get the funds to the Teran family. As always 100 percent of what you donate for a special project will go to that project.

Visitors From Navojoa
In February, Carmen and Felipe Vasquez, administrators of Faith Ministries Christmas and VBS Outreaches in the southern area of Sonora, came to see us and ministered in our Douglas church. They haven’t been here before and they were such a blessing to our local church family.
When our son, Bob, and his wife, Miki, and their boys were living in Navojoa, they helped form Centro de Orientación Familiar, a non-profit humanitarian organization in Mexico. Carmen is the president. It has been such a blessing to be able to move funds for outreaches from one non-profit to another.
In spite of Covid, thousands of children heard the Good News of the Gospel in Sonora, and even into Chihuahua, and Sinaloa because of Carmen and Felipe’s hard work and faithfulness.
Now, it is time to begin to raise funds to reach children through our summer VBS programs.
These children are not only being taught the Word of God, they are developing a personal relationship with Jesus. We see a fire of revival being birthed in their hearts.
In one of the summer VBS’s, a young girl about 8 years old went to the front to read something from the lesson, but after a little bit, she put the book down and begin to preach from her Spirit, holding us all spellbound. Witnessing the power of the Holy Spirit flow through this child was so encouraging.
We have an excellent source for VBS material. This year they are making their material available to download and copy.
Many of the areas that we send the programs into don’t have the funds or equipment to copy the material, so we have bought a color printer for Carmen to make copies for those who would not have a way of printing the material themselves. Faith Ministries will supply the ink.
On VBS Graduation Day, in many of the poorer areas, we provide the supplies for a party for the children with a meal and piñata.
There is a mighty army of Christian soldiers rising up that will have a lasting effect in Mexico. Hallelujah! Thank you for helping Faith Ministries reach the children!
Felipe ministered for us at Faith Ministries Church while they were here. You can listen to the bilingual message here.
