Well, here I sit in early January writing to you what will be read in February, with my thoughts still full of what we enjoyed in December.
Now, the only way this is going to work is if I can relate to you through the Word of God. His Word is always fresh and relevant to any and all moments as we need it. Matthew 24:35 says, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” And in Deuteronomy 8:3b, Man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.”
Two of the promises I draw from these scriptures is: I can live by the Word and the Word will always be available to me.
The Apostle Paul said in Romans 10:8b “That is, the Word of faith, which we preach.” Everything we have done and will be doing in the fore-mentioned months is based on our commission to preach God’s Word. From the pulpits of our churches to the children in the mountains, our mission is to preach the Word.
Where we encounter the need for salvation, the Word is the answer. Be it healing, or deliverance they need, the Word is declared.
Where prosperity is needed, and freedom from the oppression of poverty, again, it’s preaching the Word.
I never cease to marvel at the wisdom that comes out of the Word. One of our ministries in helps is to sit at the table over a cup of rich Mexican coffee and share the burdens and challenges of other pastors.
Not being trained in counseling, I must depend on the Holy Spirit to have a proper and timely word of encouragement. Time and again Holy Spirit will remind me of a scripture and when quoted, joy rises and eyes sparkle as the wisdom of that Word is revealed to my fellow pastor.
The preaching, teaching, and sharing of God‘s amazing Word is definitely the lead force in this ministry.
Many of you reading this are very much a part of this Word proclamation by your continued support in prayer and finances.
God’s Word for you today is Romans 10:13-15 “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace? Who bring glad tidings of good things!
Calvin and Barbara
Christmas 2017 Report
This year was so different than previous years for Calvin and I. For over 30 years we’ve spent our Christmas’ in Mexico traveling from one program to the next. We love to be there and see the joy and pleasure on the faces of the children. This year after Calvin’s surgery, it was just too soon for him to be traveling all day over rough Mexican roads.
But God… in His mercy and wisdom had our supporters send the majority of the Christmas funds in early. Before Calvin had surgery, we had all the funds for the goody bags and all the teams in place, so all the Christmas programs for 13,000 children in over 100 towns stayed on schedule. Hallelujah! God is so good!
One thing we are lacking is pictures. We personally take most of the pictures we use. To have our 2017 DVD ready on time, we put some of the Christmas pictures (such as the one on the left) from 2002 to 2005 on our DVD. I really enjoyed working on them, and I think they will bless you too.
The pictures below our 2017 video ARE from this year’s Christmas pictures that others have sent to us.
On Christmas Eve we were at our granddaughter Rachel’s house. I said, “I don’t remember ever being at your house at Christmas.” Then I realized we’ve spent Christmas in Mexico for the past 30 years, although we’ve often had grandchildren with us there. Well, to everything there is a season and through every season there is a purpose.
The day after Christmas our daughter Lisa and her daughter Jewel, with three of her children came and spent 3 nights with us. It was wonderful to have them.
We so appreciate all of you who make these outreaches possible.
